The "Child and space" association has been set up on 25.10.2004 as a result of the investigative interdisciplinary laboratory`s work, which occurred within the French-Bulgarian training project "To Grow up without Parents". This project covered the period 1998-2004 with the support of "MDM", Bordeaux, France, "Child and Family Development" foundation, Bulgaria, The Interdisciplinary Center for the Child`s professional organization and The French Institute in Sofia.
The realization of this large scale training project was achieved concerning to the Ministry of Health`s structural reform which started in 1997 to transform the former `Mother and Child` homes and completely change the medicine type of taking care of the accommodated children in the institution.
The project "To Grow up without Parents" was accomplished within six academic years / October 1998 - June 2004/ including multidisciplinary teams from all the 32 homes for medico-social cares in the country and social workers from 15 Child Protection Departments.
By the project`s completion arose a need of support of the specialists from different institutions and different professions who were a part the project and who have experience with working with kids at risk and their families. There was a need of new ways and application forms in practicing what we had learned about the mental health in breastfeeding and early age, prevention of abandonment and reintegration in family environment, the psychological aspects of adoption, clinical observation and other methods of working which individuate the institutional cares, team working, discussion of cases, working with parents.
"The Child and its symptoms" project started in 2005. It continued until June 2009 with the participation of psychoanalysts from Interdisciplinary center for children Bordeaux, France, supported by "MDM", Bordeaux, France, the "ASSA" foundation, the "Communitas" foundation, the Social Assistance Agency and the French Cultural Institute. Specialists from across the country, working in homes for disabled children, in day care centers for children with disabilities, resource centers, departments of social workers for child protection attended to the 6 training modules that we were conducting every year. Cases of children with some form of affliction and problematic behavior, were presented at the meetings.
The continuing of "The Child and its symptoms" program starts with the participation of psychologists, psychiatrists and psychoanalysts of Medical and Educational Institute for Children with mental health problems in "Courtil", Belgium. The program achievement is supported by the Interdisciplinary center for children Bordeaux, France and it will continue for 2 years.
